    Abstract

    Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis is a bacteria that can cause an acne. Shoe Flower (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.) and Turk’s cap flower (Malvaviscus arboreus Cav.) is expected as a natural antibacterial in the treatment of acne, it is necessary to study the antibacterial activity. This aim of this study is to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts of single and combination of shoe flower and turks cap flower extract. This study is an experimental method using ethanol 70%. Ethanol extract of the shoe flower and turks cap flower is made by 4 series concentrations of single (10%, 20%, 40%, 80%) and 3 series concentrations of the combination (30%: 70%, 50%: 50%, 70%: 30%). Antibacterial activity test was performed by a solid diffusion method. The results showed the best antibacterial activity in a single concentration of 80% of shoe flower extract (16,45 mm ± 0,34) and turk’s cap flower extract (16 mm ± 0,38) on the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis. Meanwhile, for the combination extract of antibacterial activity, the best concentration of combination seen at a concentration of 70%: 30% by DDH 1 mm ± 0.09 for Staphylococcus aureus and 9.72 ± 0.47 mm for Staphylococcus epidermidis.
