    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Khotimatunnisa Utami. THE APPLICATION OF TIME TOKEN MODEL USING PHOTO STORY TO IMPROVE STORY TELLING ABILITY FOR THE IVB CLASS IN SD NEGERI 2 KEBANDONGAN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2015/2016. Thesis, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University of Surakarta. May 2016. The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe the steps on the application of Time Token model using photo story media to improve story telling ability for the IV B class in SDN 2 Kebadongan, (2) to improve story telling ability through Time Token model using photo story for the IV B class in SDN 2 Kebadongan, and (3) to describe problems and solutions in using in the academic year of 2015/2016. This research is a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted within three cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings including planning, action, observation, and reflection. Subjects of the research were IV B class students of SD Negeri 2 Kebadongan totaling 20 students (12 boys and 8 girls). Sources of data were derived from IV B class students, teacher, and observer. Techniques of collecting data were learning outcomes test, observation, interview, and documentation. Validity of data in this research was analyzed using triangulation of sources and triangulation of technique. Data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this research show that: (1) the steps of Time Token model using photo story media consisted of ten stages, namely: (a) opening, (b) deliver objectives of learning, (c) explain materials of text in photo story media, (d) group division, (e) give assignment, and (f) give coupon, (g) students tell story, (h) give score, (i) conclude the materials, (j) evaluation; (2) the application of Time Token using photo story media can improve story telling ability for IV B class students in SD Negeri 2 Kebadongan in the academic year of 2015/2016. It was proven by the increase of percentage of students’ learning outcomes in the first cycle 60%, in the second cycle 72.50%, and in the third cycle 87.50%; and (3) the problems encountered in the learning, namely: (a) students do not either active in asking questions or discuss in group and some students are noisy during explanation of materials, discuss, and evaluation, (b) time allocation for evaluation are limited. Solutions for these problems are (a) give motivation and instruct students that expressing opinion is not a bad thing so that students will not be afraid to express opinion and ask question, and instruct students to pay attention to the learning material and explain the importance of understanding materials both being explained and discussed, (b) teachers add the time for evaluation. The conclusion of this research is the application of Time Token using photo story media can improve story telling ability for IV B class students in SD Negeri 2 Kebadongan in the academic year of 2015/2016.
