    Abstract

The jigsaw-type of cooperative learning model application to improve learning motivation and outcome in Sociology Subject in the 11th IPS (Social Science) 1 graders of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta in the School Year of 2015/2016. Thesis, Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Surakarta Sebelas Maret University, April 2016. This research was conducted aiming to improve learning motivation and outcome in sociology subject among the 11th IPS (Social Science) 1 graders of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta in the School Year of 2015/2016 by applying Jigsaw type of cooperative learning model. This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subject of research was the 11th IPS (Social Science) 1 graders of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta, consisting of 30 students. Techniques of collecting primary data used were observation, test, and questionnaire, while those of collecting secondary data were interview and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis technique. The result of research showed that the jigsaw-type of cooperative learning model application could improve learning motivation and learning outcome of sociology subjects among the 11th IPS (Social Science) 1 graders of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta in the School Year of 2015/2016. Learning motivation of students belonged to good criteria 66.67% in cycle I, increasing to 86.67% in cycle II. In prior action, the learning outcome of students had mean score of 70.13, increasing to 76.4 in cycle I, and to 87.06 in cycle II. The conclusion of research was the jigsaw-type of cooperative learning model application could improve learning motivation and outcome of sociology subject among the 11th IPS (Social Science) 1 graders of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta.
