    Abstract

    Volcanic ash is one material that was ejected during eruption of the volcano. Volcanic minerals have the potential to weather and provide nutrients for the soil and plants but it requires quite a long time. Potassium is one nutrient contained in volcanic ash. This study aims to determine the residual effect of volcanic ash from Mount Kelud and organic matter to the availability and uptake of potassium in maize on Alfisol in second cropping season. The experiment was conducted in August 2015 to December 2015 at greenhouses and Laboratory of Soil Chemistry and Fertility, Faculty of Agriculture UNS, based on completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors factorial treatments, the thickness of the Kelud volcanic ash (0, 2, 4, 6 cm) and cow manure doses (0, 2,5, 5 ton/ha). The variable observations are availability of potassium, cation exchange capacity, soil pH, plant height, weight stover, potassium uptake. Data were analyzed by variance test level 95% of level confidence. If any significant difference, continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) level of 95%. The thickness of Kelud volcanic ash and cow manure have significant effect on the available potassium in second cropping season, with results 2.017 cmol(+)/kg in volcanic ash 2 cm and 2.039 cmol(+)/kg in dosages of 2.5 ton/ha.
