    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Reni Noviani. THE EFFORT TO IMPROVE THE STUDENT’S ACTIVITY AND THE SKILL OF JAVANESE SCRIPT READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH COOPERATIVE LEARNING MODEL TYPE TEAMS GAMES TOURNAMENT OF STUDENTS OF CLASS VII G SMP NEGERI 3 KARANGAYAR. Thesis, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. June 2016. This was a classroom action research aiming to improve the student’s activity in learning and the skill of Javanese script reading comprehension through cooperative learning model type teams games tournament of students of class VII G SMP Negeri 3 Karanganyar in the academic year of 2015/2016. This research was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four actions, namely planning action, implementation action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were students and Javanese teacher of class VII G SMP Negeri 3 Karanganyar. The data was obtained through observation, interviews, test, and documentation. The research’s result showed that through the implementation of TGT cooperative learning model could improve the student’s activity in learning and the skill of Javanese script reading comprehension. The improvement of student’s activity could be seen from the increasing of percentage which in first cycle gained 52,94 % and second cycle gained 82,35 %. In preaction pahse, percentage of skill improvement of Javanese skill reading comprehension was 29,41 % with an average score was 44. In first cycle, the percentage of success was 51,42% with an average score was 74,06. In second cycle, the percentagewas 79,41 with an average score was 84,00. The conclusions of this research are the implementation of cooperative learning model type Teams Games Tournament can increase the student’s activity in learning and the skill of Javanese script reading comprehension of students of class VII G SMP Negeri 3 Karanganyar in the academic year of 2015/2016.
