Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the cover plate thickness parameters and the voltage on the intermetallic layer formation welded by resistance spot weld. Materials used are galvanized low carbon steel with plate thickness of 2,2 mm and aluminum A5052 with plate thickness of 3 mm. Cover plate thickness 1,2; 1,4 and 1,8 mm. For the constant weld time is at 7,5 second. The voltage parameters used are 2,30 V; 2,67 V; and 3,20 V. The test performed are SEM (scanning electro microscope) and EDS (Electro disspersive spectrometry). As a result of the experiment, spesiment without cover plate and spesimen with cover plate intermetalic layer shown tongue morfology, continous intermetallic layer but the thickness is not constant and appear as a wave. Intermetallic morphology toward to steel. Intermetallic thickness without cover plate higher than intermetallic with cover plate. Study Intermetallic welding by resistance spot phases appear was Fe2Al3,Fe2Al5, FeAl2 dan FeAl.
