    Abstract

    This study aims to examine the impact of challenge stressor on commitment and performance with work engagement and burnout as mediator. There are six hypotheses proposed in this research : 1) challenge stressor has positive effect on burnout, 2) challenge stressor has positif effect on work engagement, 3)burnout has negative effect on commitment and performance, 4) work engagement has positive effect on commitment and performance, 5) burnout will mediated between challenge stressor and commitment, performance, 6) work engagement will mediated between challenge stressor and commitment, performance. This research done on 188 hotel employees from star one until star three. In this research commitment and performance are affected positively by work engagement and only commitment is affected by burnout negatively, while the performance can estimated by the burnout through work engagement. Results showed not all hypotheses are supported. This is because of appearing an high relation between burnout and work engagement.
