    Abstract

    ABSTRACK Ummi Wardati. K1308124. THE ATTEMPT OF IMPROVING MATHEMATIC LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT AND INTEREST USING THINK PAIR SHARE (TPS) TYPE OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING IN THE 8THA GRADE IN SMP NEGERI 2 MIRI SRAGEN IN THE SCHOOL YEAR OF 2013/2014. Thesis, Surakarta : Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University. February 2016. The research aims to improve mathematic learning achievement and interest using Think Pair Share (TPS) type of cooperative learning in the 8thA grade in SMP Negeri 2 Miri in the school year of 2013/2014 as well as to describe the Think Pair Share (TPS) type of cooperative learning implementation that could improve the mathematic learning achievement and interest among the 8thA graders in SMP Negeri 2 Miri in the school year of 2013/2014. The data collected in this study was that of learning implementation, of student learning interest, and of mathematic learning achievement. The data of learning implementation and learning interest were obtained from the result of observation during learning process, while that of students’ learning achievement was obtained through end-cycle test result. From the result of research, it can be concluded that the use of Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model that could improve mathematic learning achievement and interest included: 1) introduction: teacher made apperception, conveyed learning objective and motivated students. 2) main activity involving: a) teacher presented a little supporting material, b) in Think stage, teacher distributed student worksheet (LKS) and told the students to think of answer to the worksheet given, c) in Pair stage, teacher told the students to form group with their teammate and to discuss to find the answer to worksheet, c) in share stage, teacher assigned the student to present their discussion result and the groups not assigned were given opportunity of responding to it, expressing their opinion and asking question, d) teacher along with students discussed the result of presentation so that appropriate answer was obtained, e) teacher repeated the students’ answer and ensured that the students understood it. 3) closing activity: teacher along with students concluded the material learnt, gave quiz and gave reward for the students’ performance during learning process. The data of test result showed that 63.64% of students passed successfully in cycle I, increasing by 9.09% to 72.73% in cycle II. Meanwhile, for the result of observation by 3 observers showed that the mean percentage of students’ learning interest was 54.50% in cycle I, increasing by 27.30% to 81.80% in cycle II. Considering the result above, it could be concluded that the Think Pair Share (TPS) of cooperative learning model use could improve the mathematic learning achievement and interest among the 8thA graders in SMP Negeri 2 Miri in the school year of 2013/2014.
