    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Air polution is the entry process or the inclusion of the organism, substances, energy and the other components into the air or the changing of air order by human activities or the other natural processes, so the air quality becomes less or not functioning as it is supposed to be. Carbon monoxide gas (CO) is one of dangerous pollutan substances which is the most produced by motor vehicles. By October 2014, the total of the vehicles in Surakarta reaches 658.521 units which is almost all of them passing Slamet Riyadi Street. One of the strategies to reduce the emission level of CO is by providing the green-line along the street. The aims of this research were to observe the amount of CO in the transportation sector of each part of Slamet Riyadi Street, the green-line plants’ abillity of Slamet Riyadi Street on reducing CO level, and the reduction of CO level in transportation sector by green-line plants of each part at Slamet Riyadi Street, Surakarta. The data collection of the vehicle volume is using traffic counting method at four points and then is processed using Mobilev application. The data collection of green-line plants is using census method and then calculating the CO level which can be reduced by the plants. The result are analyzed by descriptive method. By the calculation result of Mobilev, it is reported that the average emission level of CO is 630,42 tons/year and the plants’ ability is 112,10 tons/year. Based on the result, the remaining CO emission at Slamet Riyadi Street is 518,32 tons/year or in the other word, the green-line plants at Slamet Riyadi Street can only reduce 17,78% CO in transportation sector.
