    Abstract

    Listiawan. K4310049. IMPROVING ARGUMENTATION ABILITIES BY APPLYING THE DISCOVERY LEARNING WITH BRAINSTORMING FOR STUDENTS IN CLASS XI MIA 2 SMA NEGERI 1 BANYUDONO ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015. Thesis. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Sebelas Maret University. Maret 2016. The Objectives of this research is to improve: (1) the quality of oral argumentation abilities; (2) the quantity of oral argumentation abilities; (3) the quality of written argumentation abilities; (4) the quantity of written argumentation abilities of students by applying the discovery learning with brainstorming in class XI MIA 2 SMA Negeri 1 Banyudono academic year 2014/2015. This research is action class research (PTK) carried out in 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Subjects were students of class XI MIA 2 SMA Negeri 1 Banyudono Academic Year 2014/2015 amounting to 23 students. Data obtained through methods of testing, observation, documentation, and interviews. Validation data using triangulation method. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis technique that consists of three components: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The result of research showed: 1) improvement the quality and quantity of oral argumentation abilities; 2) improvement the quality and quantity of written argumentation abilities. Level 1 of oral argumentation abilities on Pre-cycle/Cycle I/Cycle II is 83,33%/84,50%/85,78%. Level 2 of oral argumentation abilities on Pre-cycle/Cycle I/Cycle II is 16,67%/15,50%/10,55%. Level 3 of oral argumentation abilities on Pre-cycle/Cycle I/Cycle II is 0%/0%/3,67%. Level 1 of written argumentation abilities on Pre-cycle/Cycle I/Cycle II is 60,87%/16,30%/0%. Level 2 of witten argumentation abilities on Pre-cycle/Cycle I/Cycle II is 35,87%/78,26%/61,96%. Level 3 of written argumentation abilities on Pre-cycle/Cycle I/Cycle II is 0%/5,43%/38,04%. Based on the result of the research can be concluded there are: (1) improvement of oral argumentation abilities up to Level 3 in Cycle II (2) improvement of oral argumentation abilities Level 3 is 3,67%; (3) improvement of written argumentation abilities up to Level 3 ini Cycle; (4) improvement of written argumentation abilities Level 3 is 38,04% by applying the discovery learning with brainstroming for students in class XI MIA 2 SMA Negeri 1 Banyudono Academic Year 2014/2015.
