    Abstract

    Generally, this class action research aims to improve the poetry writing skill using Problem Based Instruction modelin SDN Teguhan 2 sub district Paron Regency Ngawi. Particularly, the research aims (1) to describe the use of Problem Based Instruction modelin improving the poetry writing skill of grade V students of SDN Teguhan 2 sub district Paron Regency Ngawi, and (2) to improve the poetry writing skill of grade V students of SDN Teguhan 2 sub district Paron Regency Ngawi by applying the problem based instruction method. The research design employed was a class action research design. The subjects of research were teachers and grade V students of SDN Teguhan 2 sub district Paron Regency Ngawi. The action was done in 6 meeting with 2 meeting in each cycle. The research was taken place from March to July 2009. The data of research constituted the data on process and data on product obtained through the observation, interview and assignment techniques. The instrumentsused were observation guideline, interview guideline, and assignment sheet. The finding validity was tested using the observation persistence and triangulation as well as peer checking. The data obtained was analyzed using the flow model of data analysis technique encompassing data reduction, display, verification and conclusion. The conclusion of research shows: (1)that the use of Problem Based Instruction modelcan improve the students’ poetry writing skill both from the process and (2) product aspect in the idea finding, writing and presentation steps. From the process aspect, the poetry writing learning in the idea finding step can improve:the motivation to attend the learning process so that the students are enthusiastic and active in following everystep of learning activities, students creativity and enthusiasm in learning the poetry writing, students enthusiasm and creativity in finding the poetry idea by themselves deriving from the observation. From the product aspect, the application of observation method in the idea finding step can improve the students’ capability of understanding the elements of descriptive poetry writing pattern, finding the idea originating from the observation, and describing the observation object corresponding to the poetry pattern selected. Based on the result of research, it can be stated that the activity of improving the students’ poetry writing has been successful either in idea finding, writing and presentation stages. Through such actions, the students do not encounter the difficulty of writing the poetry anymore.
