    Abstract

    The research aim is to improve critical thinking through guided inquiry with buzz group discussion of X grader in SMA Negeri 2 Purworejo. This Class Action Research (CAR) consisted in cycles, which each cycle consisted of 4 stages: planning, conducting, observing, and reflecting. Research subject was class X-1 SMA Negeri 2 Purworejo which consisted of 32 pupils. The data collected by test and non-test (observation, interview and documentation) and analyzed by qualitative description. The data validated by using triangulation method. The research showed improvement of critical thinking skill in each aspect from Pre-action / Cycle I / Cycle II: 1) interpretation (41,25 / 50 / 64,37); 2) analyze (41,87 / 51,25 / 71,25); 3) evaluate (45,62 / 55 / 68,12); 4) inference (41,87 / 57,5 / 66,87); 5) explanation (43,12 / 53,75 / 70,62); 6) self-regulation (41,87 / 55 / 63,75).
