    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Novita Kiki Susanti. 2015. The Roles of Public Relations in PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital. English Diploma Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, SebelasMaret University. This final project report was written based on the job training which was done by the writer from 2nd May to 1st July 2014 at Public Relations Division of PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital. The objectiveswere to describe the roles of Public Relations in PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital, to describe problems and solutions related to the problems faced by Public Relations in PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital. The result of this report shows that there are four main roles taken by Public Relations Division related with the activities done by the division. The roles are as a communication facilitator, as a communication technician, as an expert prescriber and problem solving facilitator. The role as communication facilitator is taken by distributing questionnaire that can build mutual relationship, between PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital and its public. The role as communication technician means that the division gives the communication service and provides technical communication service to the public. It is done by making brochure and pamphlet, and improving website. Meanwhile, the role as an expert prescriber and problem solving facilitator means that the division as an adviser should be able to look for solution in every problem. The problem faced by communication facilitator is complaining about the questionnaire. Then, the old news or old of date becomes the problem faced by the division in communication technician. The role as an expert prescriber and problem solving facilitator faced two problems such as internal and external public; rolling shift in Information Sub Division and complaint in long waiting queue. The solution for communication facilitator is distributing the questionnaire when the patient wait to move to patient room is the solution. As communication technician, the solutions for PRO are always checking the brochure, pamphlet and website every time, also updating the new news. The solutions as an expert prescriber and problem solving facilitator in internal public are to give opportunity to choose the day and the shift without any compulsion. The solutions in external public is by dividing the queuing ticketmachine in two places; also give clear instruction in the big board.
