    Abstract

Thesis. Advisor I: Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd, Advisor II: Dr. Sarwanto, M.Si, Science Education Program, Post Graduate Program Sebelas Maret University of Surakarta. The purposes of this research are to know: (1) the difference of student achievement between students who learn through STAD using real lab and virtual lab, (2) the difference of student achievement between students who have high and low prior knowledge, (3) the difference of student achievement between students who have visual and cynesthethyc learning styles, (4) the interaction between learning using real lab and virtual lab and prior knowledge, (5) the interaction between learning using real lab and virtual lab and learning styles, (6) the interaction between prior knowledge and learning styles, and (7) interaction between learning using real and virtual lab, prior knowledge, and learning style. This research used the experimental method and was conducted March– December 2009. The population of the research was all students in grade IX. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling, consisted of four classes, grade IX D and E were treated using STAD with virtual lab and grade IX F and G were treated using STAD with real lab. The data was collected using test for student prior knowledge and student’s achievement, and questionnaire for student learning styles. Analyzing the data used the three ways anova by 2x2x2 factorial design and continued by Analysis of Means. The Result of this research can be concluded: (1) there is no difference of student achievement between student who learn using real lab and virtual lab (p- value = 0,117 > 0,050), (2) there is difference of student achievement between students who have high and low prior knowledge, (p-value = 0,000 < 0,050), from the next result test of Anova resulted that student who have high prior knowledge better than student who have low prior knowledge, (3) there is no difference of student achievement between students who have visual and cynesthethyc learning styles, (p- value = 0,467 > 0,050), (4) there is no interaction between STAD learning using lab and the prior knowledge to the student achievement (p-value = 0,233 > 0,050), (5) there is no interactions between STAD learning using lab and learning style to the student achievement (p-value = 0,233 > 0,050), (6) there is no interaction between prior knowledge and learning styles to the student achievement (p-value = 0,381 > 0,050), and (7) there is no interaction between STAD learning using lab, prior knowledge, and learning styles to student achievement ( p-value = 0,875 > 0,050).
