    Abstract

PHYSICS TEACHING THROUGH INQUIRY MODEL TO IMPROVE THE STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES AND COGNITIVE ABILITY: A RESEARCH IN CLASS XI SCIENCE 1 OF SMA N 1 WONOSARI KLATEN ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2014/2015. Thesis, Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Sebelas Maret University, October 2015. This research aims to: 1) improve the students’ activities in Physics teaching through inquiry model in class XI SCIENCE 1 of SMA N 1 Wonosari Klaten academic year of 2014/2015; 2) improve the students’ cognitive ability in Physisc teaching through inquiry model in class XI SCIENCE 1 of SMA N 1 Wonosari Klaten academic year of 2014/2015. This research was a Classroom Action Research using the adoption of Kemmis an Mc. Taggart’s model which was conducted in two cycles. Every cycle began with preparation stage and followed with the treatment stage which consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of the research were 34 students of class XI SCIENCE 1 of SMA N 1 Wonosari Klaten in the second semester of the academic year of 2014/2015. The data were collected through observation, document analysis, test, and document study. The data analysis technique used in this research was analysis technique and qualitative descriptive. Besides applying the inquiry model, this research was also applied teacher remedial actions which led to the improvement the students’ activities in class XI SCIENCE 1 of SMA N 1 Wonosari Klaten academic year of 2014/2015, that is; teachers had more interactions with students’, a group reduced to 3-4 students, student worksheet (LKS) distributed one sheet for each student and students’ seats neatly arranged and grouped before the learning begins. Based on the data analysis in this research, it can be concluded that: (1) teaching Physiscs through inquiry model can improve the students’ activities in class XI SCIENCE 1 of SMA N 1 Wonosari Klaten academic year of 2014/2015. It can be seen in the activity improvement. It has reached the improvement in the first cycle but all aspects of activities had not reached the performance target. In the second cycle all of the activities aspects reached the target (2) teaching Physiscs through inquiry model can improve the students’ cognitive ability in class XI SCIENCE 1 of SMA N 1 Wonosari Klaten academic year of 2014/2015. It can be seen from the students’ score in the first cycle in which 42,42% of the students reached the minimum criterion which also improved to 78,13 % in second cycle. The cognitive performance target was the students’ minimum criterion reached 70% at minimum. Key Words : inquiry model, students’ activities, students’ cognitive ability
