    Abstract

ABSTRACT Candra Dewi Setyaningsih. Analysis of Transposition on Declarative Sentence Translations in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Movie. Thesis: English Department. Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Sebelas Maret University. The aims of this research are to find out the types of transposition applied at declarative translation and to know the impacts of the transposition to the quality of declarative sentences translation in terms of accuracy and acceptability. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was taken from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie. The first data were elements of declarative sentences using transposition. The elements were taken from words, phrases, and sentences. There were two methods of data collection for this research namely document analysis and interview. The document analysis method was used to analyze the types of transposition applied at the declarative sentences translation. The interview method was applied to analyze the impacts of the transposition to the translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability. The second data were taken from questionnaires assessed by three raters. Total data were 101 numbers. The research findings showed that there were six types of transposition applied at the declarative sentences translation. Ninety-one data were categorized into level shift, and ten data were categorized into category shift. The types of transposition were divided into word to phrase, phrase to word, complex sentence to simple sentence, noun to verb, noun to adjective, and preposition to verb. The transposition of changing the word into phrase is the most dominant type applied by the translator. The analysis result of accuracy translation showed that 84 data (83,17%) were considered accurate, 13 data (12,87%) were less accurate, and 4 data (3,96%) were inaccurate. Meanwhile, the analysis result of acceptability translation showed that 94 (93,07%) were categorized into acceptable, and 7 data (6,93%) were less acceptable. There was not found unacceptable translation. For the result, it can be concluded that the types of transposition resulting high degree of the accuracy and acceptability translation are word to phrase and phrase to word. Then, the types resulting low degree of the accuracy and acceptability are complex sentence to simple sentence, noun to verb, noun to adjective, and preposition to verb.
