Marriage according to customary law is something related to family, society, prestige and personal affairs. Marriage is not only a sexual intercourse between a man and a woman, but it aims to construct a happy and everlasting family and event wants to construct and to build as well as to maintain a harmonic and peaceful relativity. This research aimed to find out the change of customary wedding procession occurring in priyayi, pedagang ( merchant ), wong cilik ( common people classes ) either before or after wedding procession. This study was a case study research. In collecting the data, the author served to be an instrument of looking for data in the field by conducting direct observation and in-depth interview. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. To validate the collected data, the author employed source triangulation. In analyzing data, the author employed an interactive data analysis. This research used George Homans’s Social Exchange theory. The result of research showed that the process of selecting mate had been shifted in a variety of society classes in Javanese ethnic, in which weton has no longer the parameter of the matching of a couple. In the three classes of Javanese ethnic structure: Priyayi, pedagang, and wong cilik, it was the priyayi class that had shifted largely in the mate selection. Priyayi class was more transparent in the term of selecting mate for their children, not like merchants and wong cilik who were still sendiko dawuh or obedient to the more conservative customary leader. On the average, the class of Javanese society structural social no longer used nontoni procession. It was because their children looked for their mate according to their choice that had been familiar with them before. The placement of tarub was no longer conducted based on time calculation, but only considering the need. The day determination was still largely used, but the time (hour) determination was not. Keywords: Change, Social Structure, Wedding Procession, Javanese Costums.
