    Abstract

    Muhammad, NIM: I 0305045. DESIGN OF BUSINESS SIMULATION GAME IN SUTTLECOCK COMPANY AS A TOOL FOR INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING DESIGN PRACTICUM. Thesis. Surakarta: Industrial Engineering Department Faculty of Engineering, Sebelas Maret University, in April 2010. The Industrial Engineering Design (IED) practicum in 2009 was simulation of the shuttlecock company’s business activities. The business activities were consist of one supplier, one bank, four customers, four production supervisors and four shuttlecock companies. Participants played role as companies where each company compete with the other company. In each company were consist of four departments i.e., purchasing department, production department, sales department and finance department. Participants simulated four department with an hour simulation time to represent eight hour real time. Product materials were simulated using lego. IED practicum in 2009 had several weakness such as the running time was so long, physical activities were more dominant than managerial activities, supplier capacity was infinite and supplier lead time was just one day. The weakness can be eliminated by using computer-based business simulation game. The design of computer-based business simulation game is completed through four steps. First step is to design the game concept with system dynamics approach using verbal model and causal loop diagram. Second step is to construct the model using Stella version 9.1.3 which is consist of purchasing models, production models, sales models and financial models. Third step are to verify and validate of the game model. The fourth step are to propose the practicum module and test the practicum. In the game concept, the participant have to input some data such as product type and quantity, product prices, and plan order release. At the end of each period, participants will get stock reports, production reports, sales reports and financial statements. There are four assessment criteria for determining the winner, i.e. purchase performance, production performance, sales performance and finance performance. The practicum module contains practicum purposes, assessment criteria, tools and materials, literature review, shuttlecock company profile, game concept, game models, practicum procedures and practicum final report. This business simulation game can shorten running time, make managerial activities are more dominant, reduce assistant resources, improve data recording, set supplier capacity and set supplier lead time.
