    Abstract

    Extension is a learning activity for the main actors and businesses so that they are willing and able to help and organize which do in accessing market information, technology, capital, and other resources, to efforts to improve productivity, business efficiency, incomes and welfare, as well as raise awareness in the preservation of function environment. This study aims to: (1) Describe the implementation of agricultural extension in Karanganyar; (2) Describe the characteristics of farmers in Karanganyar; (3) Describe the perception of farmers to agricultural extension activities; and (4) to analyze the influence, direct or indirect, farmer characteristics, internal activities, and external environment to perception of farmers on agricultural extension activities. The research was conducted in Karanganyar Central Java Province with the type of survey research, sampling techniques performed by multistage random cluster sampling. Respondents are farmers who are members of farmer groups as many as 107 people a data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis and path analysis. The research variables include characteristics of farmers (X1), internal processes (X2), external environment (X3), Perception of farmers to agricultural extension activities (Y). The results showed that the characteristics of farmers jointly influence the perception of farmers to agricultural extension activities amounted to 21.80%, the external environment influence together against the internal processes of 46.80%, the external environment influence together against the perception farmers on agricultural extension activities amounted to 41.40%, internal processes together influence the perception of farmers to agricultural extension activities amounted to 30.10%. The variables that most influence the external environment are group dynamics, leadership groups and the availability of facilities and infrastructure. Keywords: perception, farmers, extension
