    Abstract

    Staphylococcus is often known as the normal flora of the skin and mucous membranes of humans. Some types Stahylococcus can cause infections in wounds and food poisoning. Antibiotics can cause bacterial resistance later so the alternative treatment of telang flowers (Clitoria ternatea) and soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.) which been proved to be efficacious as an antibacterial was chosen. The aim of this study was to test the antibacterial activity of telang flower and soursop leaf ethanol extract combination against Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. This study was an experimental study. Telang flowers and soursop leaves ethanol extracts obtained by percolation with ethanol 70% then were tested for antibacterial activity by diffusion method against S. aureus and S. epidermidis with the extract concentration were 40:60, 50:50 and 60:40, and compared with the single extract 100%, ciprofloxacin and DMSO. The data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 using Oneway ANOVA. The results showed that the antibacterial activity of telang flower and soursop leaf ethanol extract was including the strong category against S. aureus and S. epidermidis (diameter inhibition formed more than 10mm). Telang flower 60% : soursop leaf 40% was better for S. aureus (DI 17,8mm and 19,6mm) and the 100% soursop leaf was better for S. epidermidis (DI 23,0 mm and 21,6 mm). The results of analysis using SPSS showed that there were significant differences of inhibition activity in the combination of extracts of different concentrations to ciprofloxacin in S. aureus and S. epidermidis (sig. = 0.000).
