Abstract
The effects of the shielding gas and electrical voltage on the mechanical properties of resistance spot welded joint of dissimilar metal AA 5052 - AA 6061 have been investigated in this study. Electrode pressure, welding time, and gas flow rate were constantly maintained. Welding processes were conducted with variation of shielding gas, there are Argon, Carbon dioxide and without shielding gas. welding parameter used were voltage variation of 2,30 V, 2,67 V and 3,20 V. The microstructure investigations, Vickers hardness test, and tensile load bearing capacity test were performed to evaluate the mechanical properties of joints. The result shows that voltage 3,20 V with argon gas produce the highest tensile load bearing capacity of 568,96 N. The increasing of welding voltage caused the increasing nugget size. The nugget welded using argon gas had the highest level of hardness. This is caused by the effect of grain size reduction due to its cooling rate.
