    Abstract

    N utilization efficiency is low due to the loss of N through nitrification, erosion, evaporation continuously, causing lower crop productivity (Rotimi et al., 2008). The existence of nitrification in the soil can lead to accumulation of nitrates that can cause N leached to below layer . Granting the application of synthetic compounds such as Nitrapyrin indeed succeeded in reducing the loss of soil N, but the price is relatively expensive and have a negative impact on non-target soil microbes, the need for nitrification inhibition inexpensive and environmentally friendly, namely the use of grass Brachiaria as controlling nitrification. This study aims to determine Brachiaria in inhibiting nitrification in the soil. Compiled based on Completely Randomized Design consists of two factors: the type Brachiaria and dose fertilizers. The main variables include nitrification potential, NO3- leached. Variable supporters include soil pH.. The results showed that Brachiaria effective to inhibit nitrification is Brachiaria brizanta. The most effective dose of fertilizer to inhibit nitrification and lower levels at doses that leached NO3- is N0 (without fertilizer) Keyword: Nitrification, Brachiaria, Potensial Nitrification, NO3- leached
