    Abstract

    Background: Age of preschool children between 3-6 years old are the golden period which at the same time are also a critical stages of human life. Future of children will depend on the children experience acquired including parenting and education factors. Parentings are all forms and processes of interaction that occurs between parents and children that give effect to the personality development of children. This study aimed to analyze the effect of parenting and educational level to social emotional development of preschool children in play group (KB) and kindergarten (TK) Islam Al-Irsyad 01 Cilacap. Methods: This study is a non-experimental quantitative design with observational analytic cross sectional approach. The study was conducted in KB and TK Islam AlIrsyad 01 Cilacap with a population of 116. Samples were taken with a proportionate stratified random sampling technique were 60 students aged 4-5 years and their parents. Data collection techniques of the social emotional development is done by observations based on the observation sheet. Type of parenting was measured with a questionnaire. Data analysis is using Chi Square. Results: The majority of parents (93.3%) applied a democratic type of parenting, most parents (66.7%) are highly educated and most of the students (86.7%) had high emotional social development. There is no significant relationship between the level of parents education with social emotional development of children, p = 1.000, which means that the value of p>α (α = 0.05 level). There is a significant correlation between the type of parenting with social emotional development of children, p = 0.006, which means that the value of p<α (α = 0.05 level). There is no significant relationship between the level of parents education and the type of parenting with social emotional development of children, p = 0.154, which means that the value of p>α (α = 0.05 level). Conclusions: The level of education does not correlate significantly but the type of parenting significantly associated with social emotional development of children. The level of education and the type of parenting does not correlate significantly. Keywords: parents education, parenting style, social emotional development, preschool children.
