    Abstract

    The objectives of the research are to improve the argmentation writing skill to by applying Mind Mapping methods on the 4th grade students of SD Negeri 01 Gedong, Wonogiri in the academic year of 2013/2014 and to describe the process of Mind Mapping methods usage in improve the argumentation writing skill. The approach used in this research was classroom action research. The research was conducted in 3 cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings, and each meeting consists of 4 phases, namely: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this research were 27 students in 4th grade of SD Negeri 01 Gedong, Wonogiri in the academic year of 2013/2014. The technique of collecting data used in this research were observation, interview, test, and documentation. The datas were analyzed by using an interactive model of descriptive analysis (Milles & Huberman) which consists of three phases, namely: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity test used in this research were triangulation of data and triangulation of technics. Based on the results of the research that had been implemented, it can be concluded that the use of Mind Mapping methods could improve the ability to argumentation writing skill at the 4th grade students of SD Negeri 01 Gedong, Wonogiri in the academic year of 2013/2014. The improvement was verified by the improved classical minimum score in each cycle. Before the implementation of the treatment,there were only 11 students who got score above minimum criteria (40.7%), that is 70. 15 students got score above minimum criteria (55.5%) following the treatment of Cycle I, which 20 students got score above minimum criteria (74%) following the treatment of Cycle II and 25 students got score above minimum criteria (92%) following the treatment of Cycle III. The process of Mind Mapping methods usage could be described in three stages of learning in learning the ability to compare numeral value of different fraction. They were exploration, elaboration and confirmation. Keywords: the argumentation writing skill, interactive Mind Mapping methods
