    Abstract

    This research was carried out to improve: (1) the memory capability students on the subject matter of colloid system, (2) students achievement on the subject matter of colloid system. This research was an action research that consists of two cycles. Each cycle has four steps including action planning, implementing the action, observing and reflecting. The subject of this research was the students of Class XI IPA 2 SMA Negeri 2 Karanganyar, academic year 2012/2013. Data were obtained through observation, test and questionnaire. The data were analyzed using technique of qualitative descriptive analysis. The result showed that the implementation of Numbered Heads Together (NHT) method with Crossword Puzzle improved the quality of students’ learning process and achievement on the subject matter of colloid system. The enhancement of learning process quality can be seen by students’ memory capability of which on the first cycle was obtained 47,22% and on the second cycle was obtained 69,44%. However, the enhancement of students’ achievement is shown by cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The cognitive aspect result shown by an increase from 33,33% on the first cycle to 72,22% on the second cycle. The affective and psychomotor aspects were carried out once on the first cycle with the result 71,49% and 69,44%.
