    Abstract

    DSLR camera as a product innovation has its own way to be accepted and adopted by a social system, especially professional photographers and journalists in the city of Solo and Yogyakarta. Diffusion of innovation systematically explain how a product innovation DSLR disseminated and accepted by the group of innovation in it. As a special form of communication, the diffusion of innovation theory, there are two main points of communication studies, namely how a communicator and communicant in category of innovation act to spread the message and receive messages. Both of these points are the key to how a product innovation is able to effectively disseminated and accepted (adopted) by class of innovations in it. This research is qualitative research descriptively. Researchers using the case study method. Case studies are used when a suitable research with regard to how and why. Researchers describe the results of research conducted in the form of a narrative. Samples of the population is taken through a maximum variation sampling. In addition to using a maximum variation sampling technique, researchers used a snowball sampling technique. Researchers took samples of professional photographers and journalists in the city of Solo and Yogyakarta. The technique of collecting data through in-depth interviews and observation of the sample environment. For the validation of the data, the researcher uses source triangulation. The results of this study showed that category of innovation in the diffusion of innovation, the innovators, early adopters, early majority, late majority and has its own characteristics and patterns of communication when they become communicators that spread the message and when they become communicants (message reception). This example can be seen from the selection of the media in communicating and using a variety of media to gather information references associated with innovation There is a characteristic and different communication patterns in each category of innovation in the social system of professional photographers and journalists in the city of Solo and Yogyakarta in the process of dissemination and reception of information related DSLR technology.
