    Abstract

    The aim of this research is to examine the influence of employee commitment on performance for employees with high and low power distance. The employee commitment consists of commitment to supervisor and commitment to Organization. A sample of 462 employees taken from 10 universities in West; Central and East Java, and 23 manuflszcturing firms in Semarang and Solo that aperate in garment; textile, and cigarette. F uthermore, the sample is divided in two subsamples. The first subsample are 225 employees with high power distance and the second suhsample are 23 7 employees with low power distance. The hypotheses testing uses equality of two regression coeflicients test and t-test or comparing coefficients across regressions. The results of this study indicate that the influence of commitment on performance depends on employee power The influence needs the compatibility between commitment foci and distance orientation.
