    Study of thermal degradation of sulfonated polystyrene at different degrees of sulfonation and heating rate has been done. In this research, sulfonated polystyrene (PST) prepared by sulfonation of polystyrene (PS) using acetyl sulphate in dichlorometane. Polymer and the resulting sulfonated process were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Thermo Gravimetric (TG) analysis. TG Analyzes performed on teh heating rate variation 5 deg/min to 30 deg/min. Analysis of functional group indicated that sulfonated polystyrene had been success synthesized. Thermal data swoded decreasing of thermal degredation of PST. PST degradation occurs in two stages around 100°C and 300°C which indicate the release of water molecules and the degradation of the main chain. Degradation with different heating rate resulted in a shift of polymer degradation, where low heating rate resulted higher thermal degradation.
