    Abstract

    Perbedaan tekanan osmosis di sepanjang saluran pencernaan menyebabkan fungsi sel-sel epitel intestinum dalam penyerapan nutrien tidak optimal. Sel-sel epitel intestinum membutuhkan osmolit seperti betain untuk menstabilkan struktur, fungsi maupun proliferasi sel. Potensi betain dapat meningkatkan status nutrisi pada ternak tanpa menyuplai nutrien secara langsung tetapi dengan mengoptimalkan nutrien yang ada pada ransum dan melalui fungsi fisiologis spesifik. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh suplementasi betain terhadap kecernaan nutrien pada puyuh. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Experimental Farm Jurusan Peternakan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sebelas Maret, yang berlokasi di Desa Jatikuwung, Kecamatan Gondangrejo, Kabupaten Karanganyar dan di Laboratorium Nutrisi dan Makanan Ternak Jurusan Peternakan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta pada bulan April sampai dengan Agustus 2012. Materi yang digunakan adalah 340 ekor puyuh umur 4 minggu dengan bobot badan rata-rata 98,31±8,67 g dibagi ke dalam empat perlakuan berdasarkan rancangan acak lengkap. Setiap perlakuan diulang sebanyak 5 kali masing-masing berisi 17 ekor. Level suplementasi betain sebesar 0 (kontrol); 0,07; 0,14 dan 0,21%. Puyuh diambil secara acak sebanyak 40 ekor, terdiri dari 2 ekor setiap ulangan untuk mengukur kecernaan dengan metode total koleksi pada umur 13 minggu. Data kecernaan nutrien dianalisis ragam dan apabila terdapat pengaruh perlakuan dilanjutkan uji polinomial ortogonal. Peubah yang diamati adalah kecernaan bahan organik (KcBO), kecernaan protein kasar (KcPK), kecernaan lemak kasar (KcLK) dan kecernaan abu (KcAbu).Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa suplementasi betain berpengaruh terhadap kecernaan lemak kasar (KcLK), (P<0,05) dan level optimum suplementasi betain terhadap KcLK berdasarkan uji polinomial ortogonal sebesar 0,13% dengan persamaan regresi y = 75,7368 + 136,425x – 478,721x2 (R2=0,42). Simpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah suplementasi betain berpengaruh terhadap KcLK dan level optimum suplementasi betain sebesar 0,13%. The variable osmotic pressure along intestinal tract causing the function intestinal epithelial cells in the nutrients absorption was not optimum. Intestinal epithelial cells need osmolyte as betaine to stabilize structure, function and cell proliferation. The potential of betaine may increase nutritional quality in livestock without supply nutrients directly but by optimizing the nutrient of feed and through specific physiological functions. The objective of this research was to evaluate the influence of betaine supplementation in quails on nutrient digestibility. The experiment was carried out at the Experimental Farm Animal Husbandry Department Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University, located at Jatikuwung Village, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency and in the Laboratory of Nutrition and Feed Animal Husbandry Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta in April until August 2012. The material used were 340 quails at 4 weeks old with average body weight of 98.31±8.67 g. The quails were devided into four treatments based on completely randomized design. Each treatment was replicated five times with 17 quails each. The levels supplementation of betaine were 0 (control); 0.07; 0.14 and 0.21%. Forty quail were randomly chosen, consisted of two quails from each unit experiment to determine nutrients digestibility with total collection method at 13 weeks old. The data of nutrient digestibility were analyzed by analysis of variance and if there was an effect of the treatment, then it was analyzed orthogonal polynomial. Variables observed were the digestibility organic matter, crude protein, crude fat and crude ash. The result showed that betaine supplementation affect crude fat digestibility quadratically (P<0.05). The optimum level of betaine supplementation on crude fat digestibility based on orthogonal polynomial test was 0.13% with regression equation y = 75.7368 + 136.425x – 478.721x2 (R2=0.42). It can be concluded that betaine increased crude fat digestibility with optimum supplementation level 0.13%.
