    Abstract

    Nanoparticles is part of nanotechnology that studies of particles with a size of 0.1 to 100 nanometers. In SI units, it is defined as 1x 10-9 m (1 /billion ) m ). Curcuma is one type of traditional herbal medicine that has good prospects for development. Curcumin is one of the secondary metabolites of curcuma. The studies of laboratory indicated that curcumin could slow the spread of cancer and tumor cell growth in blood vessels. But the size of curcuma powder extract is still rough to be difficult to digest by the human body. Therefore, curcuma extract powder is developed in nano-sized. Extracts of curcuma which is still liquid was dried by using Ultrasonic Nebulizer Spray Dryer equipment. The purpose of this report is to obtain nano-sized curcuma powder with Ultrasonic Spray Dryer equipment. Ultrasonic Nebulizer Spray Dryer working principle is that feed solution is then atomized by Ultrasonic Nebulizer mist form. Droplet is then passed through heater through a glass pipe to remove water content. The results is obtained nano- sized curcuma powder arrested by the filter. The resulting powder will be analyzed by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) to determine its particle diameter. From the analysis results can be seen that the particle size of curcuma is still the range 0.7 - 1.0 µm (700-1000 nm). In experiments with temperature variation, used curcuma extract solution with concentration 0.75 gr / ml and the selected temperature of 160°C, 180°C, 200°C. At a temperature of 160 is obtained diameter-average particle of 0.993µm, at temperature of 180 is obtained diameter-average particle of 0.996 µm and at temperature of 200 diameter - average particle of 0.937 µm. In the experiment of variations in the concentration used in the temperature 180°C. At a concentration of 0.6 gr/ml is obtained diameter - average particle concentration 0.769 µm, at 0.45 g/ml is obtained diameter - average particle concentration 0.728 µm, at 0.3 g/ ml is obtained diameter - average particle 0.734 µm.
