    Abstract

    Based on the type of growing, cactus divided into 2 types, namely cactus and cactus upright vines, vines are examples of dragon fruit cactus and cactus upright type is Cereus sp. Cereus genus in its natural habitat can bear fruit by fruit shape and skin smooth oval fruit that resembles a cactus called apple. Cactus fruit is very rich in flavonoid substances that can be used as an antioxidant. slow aging, help the organ function, lowers blood pressure, suppress levels of bad cholesterol, pectin substances help the body stabilize blood glucose levels, and minimize the risk of diabetes. In Indonesia (around Surakarta) has conducted a cross of this genus to produce apple cactus fruit. This study aimed to assess the effect of cactus fruit seeds from crosses and seed washing on viability and growth of cactus seeds, as well as assess the morphological characteristics of seeds from crosses cactus (Cereus peruvianus Linnaeus.) and (Cereus jamacaru Candolle.). This study was conducted in March and December 2010 at the Laboratory and Greenhouse Plant Physiology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of March Surakarta. This study uses a factorial experiment on the basis of completely randomized design (CRD), consisting of 2 factors, the first factor: a wide cross Cereus. peruvianus x C. jamacaru; C. jamacaru x C. peruvianus; C. jamacaru Open pollination, seed treatment two factors: seed washed dried; seeds directly planted and repeated as many as 10 replications. Observation variables include power and speed germination, seedling height, fresh weight of seedlings, seedling dry weight, stem diameter, number of sides of the stem, number of spines and long spines. The data obtained in the analysis of variance F test with 5% level. In addition, the mean difference test between treatments using DMRT test at the 5% level. For a variable number of stars and the ability to use the Chi Square Test, level of confidence level of 5%. The results showed that the cross C. jamacaru x C. jeruvianus can increase the germination rate is 94.6%, which is 10.58 cm tall seedlings, seed weight is 12.98 grams, and the stem diameter of 2.04 cm. From crosses C. peruvianus x C. jamacaru shows the diversity of plant morphology derived from merging the genetic nature of the parent two plant (C. peruvianus and C. jamacaru).
