    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Antioxidant has an activity to neutralize of compounds free radicals, which one cause of damage to cells and tissues. One of the antioxidant compounds in plants were flavonoids contained in the peel of the mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.). This study aimed to formulate an antioxidant lotion from the methanol extract of mangosteen and test the physical, chemical properties, preferences, and irritation. Methanol extract obtained by maceration from extracting the peel powder G. mangostana L. using methanol. The resulting extract then made with variations in the concentration of extract lotion 0.5% (F1), 1% (F2), and 1.5% (F3). Three formula lotion did physical properties test such as organoleptic, homogeneity, dispersive power, stickiness, viscosity and chemical properties of lotion that was pH and irritation test and preferences. The result analyzed with teoritic approach and using the Shapiro-Wilk statistic test, ANOVA followed by a level of 95%. The results showed that the dosage of mangosteen peel extract lotion have met the SNI standard parameters 16-4399-1996 and variations of mangosteen peel extract concentration effect on pH, adhesiveness, viscosity, and dispersive power. Preferences test result showed the formula 1 was preferred and did not cause irritation.
