    Decentralization gives a wide space for the region to develop its potential as a strategy to boost the economy at the local level. One strategy used is the development of a tourism program is also supported by central government policy. Existing policy framework, then lowered in some strategic steps in Surakarta and Yogyakarta form of regulation at the local level. Research findings demonstrate commitment, policies, and strategies embodied in the regulations, which are the basis for the regulatory programs of existing tourism development. The policy provides an opportunity for the realization while optimizing tourism development at the local level. Implications identified in Surakarta and Yogyakarta showed macro-economic significance in the form of a significant contribution to local revenue and the contribution to the real sector of micro tourism stakeholders. Strategic policies for the development of tourism be a direct effect of the implementation of decentralization.
