    Abstract

    This research was conducted for determining the ability of plasma technology in reducing the tar content of the producer gas from rice husk gasification process. Tar reduction was done by plasma generator with current variations of 19.2 A, 23.4 A, 27.7 A, and 32.9 A. The results was analyzed based on the concentration of tar which containing in producer gas. The concentration of tar before and after tar cracking process were compared. The tar concentration before cracking process was 45,118 mg/m3. After cracking process it was reduced to 96 mg/m3 to 1,012 mg/m 3 with tar cracking efficiency of 99.79% to 97,76%. The results of this study showed that the greater the current of the plasma generator the smaller concentration of tar obtained. In the 32.9 A current variation, the tar concentration of 96 mg/m3 was obtained which is allowed to be use in the internal combustion engine. The tar reduction efficiency in this condition is 99.79%. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kemampuan teknologi plasma dalam mengurangi kandungan tar dari producer gas proses gasifikasi sekam padi. Pengurangan tar dilakukan dengan variasi arus pembangkit plasma sebesar 19,2 A, 23,4 A, 27,7 A dan 32,9 A. Hasil pengujian dianalisa dari konsentrasi tar yang terkandung di dalam producer gas. Konsentrasi tar producer gas hasil proses gasifikasi dibandingkan dengan konsentrasi tar producer gas sesudah mengalami proses tar cracking. Hasil penelitian diperoleh konsentrasi tar proses gasifikasi sebesar 45.118 mg/m3 sedangkan setelah proses tar cracking sebesar 96 mg/m 3- 1.012 mg/m3, sehingga memenuhi batas maksimum konsentrasi tar masuk ke dalam engine sebesar 100 mg/m3. Hasil pengujian diperoleh efisiensi pengurangan tar proses gasifikasi dan tar cracking sebesar 97,76%-99,79%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa semakin besar arus pembangkit plasma yang digunakan, maka semakin kecil konsentrasi tar yang diperoleh.
