    Abstract

    Sustainable development principles based on ecological systems. The study was based on four ecological perspectives, namely: holism, sustainability, diversity and balance. This study focused on Samin cammunity of Kendeng Mountains slopes in Pati regency. The method used was a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. In addition, the case study design is a single case study. The analysis model used is interactive analysis model, the three components of the analysis are: data reduction, data display, and witdrawing conclusions or verification. The results showed that human life and the environment described by Samin community as one of the sub-systems to sustain life cycle. Samin community utilizing nature in the era of modernization just to survive, and they do not have to exploit. This is the kind of simplicity characteristics Samin community are: simple, innocent and law-abiding. Samin people live not only to meet the interests of their group, but the most important thing is useful for 'sedulur kabeh' (everyone). Samin people believe that if they make a genuine effort to preserve the environment then they will get the best things from the environment.
