    Abstract

    This study aims to describe the ability of science teachers of junior high schools in the region of Surakarta in conducting the classroom action research process. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects were science teachers of public and private junior high schools in the area of Surakarta in the academic year of 2009/2010. While the object of this research is the level of mastery and understanding of teachers in conducting classroom action research process includes the ability to identify problems, analyze problems, formulate problem, the ability in conducting research in the classroom, and the ability to prepare reports on classroom action research. Based on the results of this study, it is concluded that 1) the ability of science teachers of junior high schools in the city of Surakarta in identifying, analyzing and formulating research problems of the classroom action research is still not good, 2) the ability of science teachers of junior high schools in the city of Surakarta in conducting the classroom action research process is still not good. 3) the ability of science teachers of junior high schools in the city of Surakarta in preparing the report of classroom action research is generally sufficient.
