    Abstract

IMPROVING STUDENT ACTIVITIES IN MATHEMATIC LEARNING OF THE PRISM AND THE PYRAMID MATERIALS THROUGH LEARNING CYCLE 5E MODEL WITH QUANTUM LEARNING APPROACH (Classroom Action Research in SMP Negeri 1 Wedi Klaten at Academic Year 2012/2013). Essay, Mathematics Education of Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. August 2013. This study aims to improve mathematics learning activities using Learning Cycle 5E Model with Quantum Learning approach in class of VIIIB SMP Negeri 1 Wedi Klaten at academic year 2012/2013. This study is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four phases: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Subjects were class of VIIIB of SMP Negeri 1 Wedi Klaten at the academic year of 2012/2013, with 38 students. Sources of research data obtained from teachers and students. Techniques of data collection is through observation, interviews, tests and documents. Techniques of data analysis is descriptive analysis techniques. The research concludes with the implementation of a class action through the use of Learning Cycle 5E Model with Quantum Learning approach to the materials of surface area and volume of the Prism and the Pyramid can improve student activities of learning in mathematics. It is based on observations and test results. From observation data, the average percentage of students who are engaged in learning activities on each indicators before cycle was 28,93%, on the first cycle increased by 30,7% to 59.63% and the second cycle increased by 14.92% to 74.55%. Moreover, the results of the test, the percentage of students who completed in the first cycle was 55.3% and it increased in the second cycle by 21% to 76.3%. Based on these results it can be concluded that the use of the Learning Cycle 5E Model with Quantum Learning approach can increase the activity of mathematic learning in the class of VIIIB SMP Negeri 1 Wedi Klaten at the academic year of 2012/2013.
