    Abstract

    This study aimed: (1) to describe the nationality insight-based history learning plan, (2) to describe the implementation of nationality insight-based history learning, (3) to describe the assessment of nationality insight-based history learning, (4) to analyze the constraints in nationality insight-based history learning. This research was conducted in SMA Al-Muayyad, one of formal education institution belonging to AlMuayyad Boarding School of Surakarta and SMA Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) constituting one of formal education institution belonging to Muhammadiyah Modern Boarding School of Yogyakarta. This research method was a descriptive qualitative while the strategy used was a multiple embedded case study strategy. The sampling technique used in this research was purposive sampling with criterion-based selection. The data collection was done using observation, interview, and documentation. The data validation was conducted using triangulation. The data analysis was carried out using an interactive model of analysis, encompassing data collection, data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The result of research concluded that (1) the planning the educators of both SMA Al-Muayyad and SMA MBS did in nationality-insight based history learning included: developing learning set in the form of syllabus and learning implementation planning (RPP) including cultural values and national character; (2) The implementation of nationality-based insight history learning was conducted by the educators of SMA Al-Muayyad through heroic story of boarding school (pesantren) in enforcing Indonesian independence, debriefing, as well as group discussion. Meanwhile, the nationality-insight based history learning implementation conducted by the educators of SMA MBS through playing documentary movies of nation struggling history, debriefing, group discussion and assignment; (3) test and non-test assessment forms by considering the cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects of students; (4) the constraints encountered in nationality insight-based history learning in SMA Al-Muayyad dan SMA MBS included: teacher competency in learning process, student attitude in attending learning and learning infrastructure.
