## Abstract

The objectives of research are (1) to find out whether or n ot there is difference of accounting learning achievement between the students taught using Number Heads Together (NHT) method and those taught using Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) method, and (2) to find out which one is the better student learning achievement between learning with Nu mber Heads Together (NHT) method or that with Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) method. This study employed an experimental method with “randomized subjects posttest-only design”. The population of research was the XI graders of SMA Negeri 1 Kartasura in the school year of 2010/2011, consisting of 4 classes. The sample consisted of 3 classes: class XI IPS II as the experimen t group I, class XI IPS 1 as the experiment group II and XI IPS 4 as the control group selected using random sampling technique, while class IPS 3 was used as the research instrument test. The data of research contains the student accounting learning achievement obtained from the multiple choice objective test. The data an alysis in this research was done using normality test with Liliefors method used to examine the condition of sample distribution, homogeneity with Bartlett method. The hypothesis test was done using t-test to find out the difference of learning ach ievement. The result of research shows that (1) there is a difference of accounting learning achievement between the students taught usin g Number Heads Together (NHT) method and those taught using Student Teams Achiev ement Division (STAD) method. The result is obtained based on the mean value obtained by the experiment group I using Number Heads Together (NHT) method of 82.7442, while the experiment group II using Student Teams Achievement Div ision (STAD) method obtains the mean value of 77.5455, so there is a difference of learning achievement between the students taught using Number Heads Together (NHT) method and those taught using Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD ) method, thus H 1 in this research is supported. (2) The student learning achievemen t of experiment group I using Number Heads Together (NHT) method is better than that of experiment group II using Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) method and control group. Based on the result of data analysis using t-test, the v alues (t st at ist ic> tt able= 2.2100 > 1.67) and (t st at ist ic> tt able = 4.1155> 1.67) are obtained with α = 5%, and the student learning achievement of experiment group II using Studen t Teams Achievement Division (STAD) method is higher than that of control group, the value (tst at ist ic> tt able = 1.7368 > 1.67) is obtained with α = 5%, so that it can be concluded thatthe student learning achievement using Numbered Heads Together (NHT ) is better than that using Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD), so that H 2 in this research is supported
