    Abstract

    The objectives of research are (1) to find out whether or not there is difference of accounting learning achievement between the students taught using Problem-Based Learning model and those taught using Expository Learning in the XI IPS graders of SMA Al Islam I Surakarta in the school year of 2010/2011, and (2) to find out whether or not the Problem Based Learning model provides the better accounting learning achievement than expository model does in the XI IPS graders of SMA Al Islam I Surakarta in the school year of 2010/2011. This study employed a quasi experimental research. The population of research was all XI IPS graders of SMA Al Islam I Surakarta in the school year of 2010/2011, consisting of 202 students divided into 5 classes. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling of two classes as experiment group and control group. The experiment group contains 40 students and the control one contains 38 students. Techniques of collecting data used were documentation and test. Technique of analyzing data used was t-test with prerequisite, t-matching. Considering the result of analysis, it can be found Me value = 79.75 and Mk = 74.76; it indicates that the mean value of experiment group is higher than that of control group. The result of data analysis shows that the tstatisticvalue = 2.303 is consulted with the t table with n = 78 and significance level of 5% with db = 75 of 1.995. Considering the result of analysis, it can be concluded that (1) based on the data analysis carried out using t-test indicated with t statistic> ttable 2.303 > 1.995 at significance level of 5% and db = 75, meaning that there is a difference of accounting learning achievement between the students taught using Problem-Based Learning model and those taught using Expository Learning in the XI IPS graders of SMA Al Islam I Surakarta in the school year of 2010/2011, (2) in the experiment group, the mean posttest value is 79.75 while in the control group it is 74.76. The higher learning achievement in experiment group compared the result obtained by the control group means that problem based learning is more effective to apply than the expository learning model.
