The Experimentation of Mathematics Learning with the Competency-Standard of Quadrate Equation by Using Cooperative Learning Models of STAD and Jigsaw Viewed from the Learning Motivation of Students in Class X of State Senior Secondary School in Surakarta. This research is aimed at finding out: (1) whether or not the learning achievement in Mathematics in the Competency-Standard of Quadrate Equation using the learning model of Jigsaw type is better than that of STAD type; (2) whether or not the students with a high learning motivation have a better learning achievement in Mathematics than those with a moderate learning motivation, and whether or not the students with a moderate learning motivation have a better learning achievement in Mathematics than those with a low learning motivation; and (3) whether or not the differences in the learning achievements of each learning model are consistent to each level of the learning motivations, and whether or not the differences in each level of the learning motivations are consistent to each learning model. This research is an experimental one with the factorial design of 2 x 3. Its population was the students of State Senior Secondary Schools in Surakarta, in Grade X, Semester I, in the Academic Year of 2008/2009. Its samples were taken by using a Cluster Random Sampling technique. The samples included the students of State Senior Secondary School 3, State Senior Secondary School 4, and State Senior Secondary School 7 in Surakarta in Grade X, Semester I, in the Academic Year of 2008/2009, from July to October 2008 by taking two classes from each school randomly. The instruments used to gather its data were the questionnaire of learning motivation and the test of Mathematics learning achievement in the topic of Quadrate Equation in the multiple choice form. Prior to their implementation, both the instruments were tested. The former was tested in terms of consistency and reliability, and the latter was tested in terms of consistency, reliability, difficulty index, and difference index. Based on the test, which used the method of KR-20, the reliability test on the test of Mathematics learning achievement was 0,785. Meanwhile based on the test which used the method of Alpha, the reliability test on the questionnaire of learning motivation was 0,858. Hypotheses of the research were tested by using a two-way Analysis of Variants with unequal cell frequency at the significance of 5%. Beforehand, pre-requisite tests were done. The tests included balance test by using t average test, normality test by using Liliefors test, and homogeneity test by using Bartlett test. The results of the pre-requisite test were as follows: the learning achievement in Mathematics of the students who used the cooperative learning models of STAD and Jigsaw were balanced; the samples had a normal distribution; and the average of the studentsâ€™ preliminary ability was homogenous.
