    Abstract

    The aims of the research are (1) to improve the quality of learning process of chemistry in the subject matter of thermochemistry by cooperative learning usingStudent Team Achievement Divisionmethod assisted by experiment and guided note taking, (2) to improve the student achievement of chemistry in the subject matter of thermochemistry by cooperative learning using Student Team Achievement Divisionmethod assisted by experiment and guided note taking. The research was a Classroom Action Research that was held in two cycles. The implementation phase of the cycle, consist of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subject was the students of class XI-IA1 of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta academic year 2010/2011. The data were obtained by observation, interview, quetionnaire, documentation, and test. We use descriptive qualitative technique to analize the data. The result of the research showed that (1) cooperative learning using Student Team Achievement Divisionsmethod assisted by experiment and guided note taking could improve the quality of learning process of chemistry in the subject matter of thermochemistry. It could be seen from the implementation of cycle I and cycle II. In cycle I, the average percentage of students activism was 75% and increased to 75,98% in cycle II. (2) cooperative learning using Students Team Achievement Divisionmethod assisted by experiment and guided note taking could improve the students’ achievement in subject matter of thermochemistry. It was divided into three different aspect psychomotor, affection, and cognitive aspect. The result of psychomotor aspect shown the percentage is 79,64%, the result of affection aspect shown the average percentage viii 77,35% in cycle I and increased to 80,31% in cycle II. From students’ achievement in cycle I and II, we know that the student learning completion was 48,57% in cycle I and increasedto 61,11% in cycle II.
