    Abstract

    This research was conducted at PT. PLN (Persero) Surakarta to know the efficiency level of promotion cost of PT. PLN (Persero) Surakarta. The data which is used in this study, firstly is primary data which covers many information that was obtained by the researcher from the direct interview with the public relation department of PT. PLN (Persero) APJ Surakarta. Then, secondly is secondarydata which covers data and information from the books and literatures. Data analysis of this research uses the percentage analysis of advertisement cost in 2008, the percentage analysis of personal selling promotion cost in 2008, the percentage analysis of selling promotion cost in 2008, to get the promotion efficiency. The data analysis was done by comparing the promotion cost (advertisement and personal selling) with the sales revenue, whether the promotion activities are proportional to the sales revenue. By the promotion cost calculation (advertisement and personal selling) and sales revenue, so it will be found the percentage level of each element whether increasing or decreasing. The purpose of this analysis is to get an illustration of the efficiency and promotion activities which were done by PT. PLN (Persero) APJ Surakarta. Efficiency is a comparison between output and input, or in the other hand output per input unit. Based on the research result, the researcher concludes that the promotion costof PT. PLN (Persero) APJ Surakarta in the year 2008 from January-December is decreasing, the sales revenue of PT. PLN (Persero) APJ Surakarta in the year 2008 from January-December goes up and down, the percentage of the comparison between advertisement, personal selling, public relation, in the year 2008 from January-December goes up and down. The promotion activities of PT. PLN (persero) APJ Surakarta do not influence the sales revenue which it means not efficient. The researcher suggests that PT. PLN (Persero) APJ Surakarta should more increase their creativities to improve the promotion to get the best result, such as; giving rewards to the customers who pay the electricity bill on schedule. PT. PLN (Persero) APJ Surakarta should spend the promotion cost effectively to get the efficiency. Such as; the advertisement cost in the printed media should be decreased, making more public service advertisement so that the society feels getting more attention.
