    Abstract

    The purposes of this research is to know the increasing of active character and result of geography learning on students of class X-9 in SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta with applying STAD learning method. This research is a class action research which performed in SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta, with object of the research is students in class X-9 whose students are 39 students, consist of 17 males and 22 females. Data collecting which is used, is observation teacher and students, test is performed in every cycles and analysis document. The prosess recearch in three cycles thats is covering four step that is planning phase, execution phase observation phase and also phase analysis and refleksi. The result show that the value : (1) Student active character experiencing of improvement from cycle 1 st to cycle 2 nd and cycle 3 th .This result is knowable from result of sheet of student observation conducted by researcher and assisted by subject teacher. Active character is in cycle 1 st is amount 49%, then in 2 nd cycle increased ti 60% and in 3 th cycle increased to 78%. From the result we knowable that students active character experiencing of improvement equal to 11% in 2 nd cycle and 18 % in 3 th cycle. (2) The result of student learning experiencing of improvement from cycle 1 st to cycle 2 nd and cycle 3 th. This result is knowable from result test given by student in each final of cycle. The cycle 1 st from 39 totalizeing student in classX-9, amount 34 student (95%) include minimum value category while student wich is not include minimum value category amount 5 student (5%) with avarege 7,1. The cycle 2 nd result learning the student experience of improvement thatto show all student of class X-9 amounting to 39 student (100%) included minimum value category with the average value 8,5. The cycle 3 th result learning the student also experience of improvement that to show all student of class X-9 amounting to 39 student (100%) included minimum value category with the average value 8,6. Conclusion in this research is happened by experience to improvement active character and result of learning student through the using of STAD method on subject rainfall in Indonesia and climate classification for student class X-9 SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta education period 2008/2009.
