    Abstract

    Black seed oil is assumed to have hypoglycemic effect because it contains thymoquinone, zinc, and several unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic acid and oleic acid. This study is purposed to investigate the effect of black seed oil on blood glucose level in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The method of this study is an experimental with pretest and post test with control group design. The study used 25 Wistar strain albino rats. The rats were devided into 5 experimental groups randomly. Group I was normal group. Group II was control group. Group III was treated with 0,32 mL/200 gram body weight/day of black seed oil. Group IV was treated with 0,64 mL/200 gram body weight/day of black seed oil. Group V was treated with 1,28 mL/200 gram body weight/day of black seed oil. The study took 15 days where alloxan was injected at day 3. Blood samples were taken at day 2, 6, and 11. Blood glucose level was measured immediately by StarDust spectrophotometer. The data obtained was analyzed statistically using one way analysis of variance (One Way Anova) and then followed by Post Hoc Tests using computer statistical software of SPSS 15.0 for Windows Evaluation Version. The One Way Anova result towards the lowering blood glucose level showed a significant difference with p : 0,000 or p < 0,01. The Post Hoc Tests result between group II and group III, group II and group IV, group II and group V was 0,000 (p < 0,01). The result between group III and group IV was 0,003 (p < 0,01). In the other hand, the result between group III and group V was 0,060 (p > 0,01) and also between group IV and group V showed p : 0,192 (p > 0,01). From the study result, it can be concluded that black seed oil might decrease blood glucose level in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The optimal dose of black seed oil to get antidiabetic effect was 0,64 mL/200 gram body weight/day. Kew words : black seed oil, blood glucose level, diabetes
