    Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis disease has hitherto infected one third of the world’s population. In 2010, there were approximately 8 million new victims of the tuberculosis disease and 2 million mortalities due to the disease all over the world. It is predicted that 95% of the victims and 98% of the mortalities have occurred in the developing countries. Indonesia is the third-biggest country after China and India with the victims of the lung tuberculosis. In 1993, World Health Organization (WHO) issued a global warning for the tuberculosis disease. Objective: to analysis the correlation of the educational level, the residence distance, and the knowledge of the lung tuberculosis clients to their motivation to undergo routine medications at Lung Hospital of Dungus, Madiun. Method: a cross-sectional approach. It was conducted from February to early June 2011, were taken by using an accidental sampling technique. The samples consisted of 48 lung tuberculosis clients undergoing DOTS medication program at Lung Hospital of Dungus, Madiun. The data of the research were gathered through questionnaire. They were then analyzed by using a multiple regression analysis. Result: (1) the educational level of the lung tuberculosis clients and their motivation to undergo routine medications result in the correlational value of 0.119 at the significance level of 0.210; (2) the knowledge of the lung tuberculosis clients and their motivation to undergo routine medications result in the correlational value of 0.404 at the significance level of 0.002; (3) the residence distance of the lung tuberculosis clients and their motivation to undergo routine medications result in the correlational value of 0.102 at the significance level of 0.245; and (4) the analysis of variance on the correlation of the educational level, the residence distance, and the knowledge of the lung tuberculosis clients and their motivation to undergo routine medications by using F test shows that Fcount is 3.827 dan Ftable is 2.80 at the significance level of 0.016; the value of Fcount is greater than that of Ftable, with the value of the significance level of 0.016 which is smaller than that of α = 0.05 . Conclusion: Based on the results of the research, a conclusion is drawn that the education level, the residence distance, and the knowledge of the tuberculosis clients statistically have a positive and significant correlation to their motivation to undergo routine medications. Keywords: Educational level, knowledge, residence distance, and motivation to undergo routine medications.
