    Abstract

Effort to Improve the Folklore Appreciation Ability with the Cooperative Learning Strategy: A Classroom Action Research on the Fifth Grade Students of State Primary School of Jatisobo 02, Polokarto, Sukoharjo. Thesis. Surakarta: The Graduate Program in Indonesian Language Education, Postgraduate Program, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. This research is aimed at improving the learning motivation and the folklore appreciation ability of the students of Primary School with the Cooperative Learning Strategy. This research was employed the classroom action research. The research was conducted in SD Negeri Jatisobo 02 Polokarto Sukoharjo for a semester started from July to December 2008. To achieve the goals, this research is used with three cycles. The procedures of each cycle include: 1) main problem development; 2) improvement action plan; 3) action implementation, observation, dan interpretation; 4) analysis and reflection; 5) follow up plan. This research subject are student and teacher of SD Negeri Jatisobo 02 Polokarto Sukoharjo. The results of the research show that the average scores of the results of observations on the students’ learning activities in Cycle 1 through Cycle 3 are 61.87%, 73.74%, and 82.5% respectively. The average score of the students’ learning motivation prior to the use of cooperative learning is 62.60. The average score of the students’ learning motivation following the use of cooperative learning is 71.03.The average score of the test of the folklore appreciation ability at the preliminary condition is 68.44, and the level of classical completeness is 41.18%. In Cycle I, the average score becomes 71.65 and the level of classical completeness becomes 67.65%. In Cycle II, the average score becomes 75.18 and the level of classical completeness becomes 82.35%. In Cycle III, the average score becomes 76.88 and the level of classical completeness becomes 100%. The average score of the students’ learning motivation (71.03) and the average score of the students’ folklore appreciation ability (76.88) with the level of classical completeness of 100% and at the end of the cycles indicate that the achievements have fulfilled the aim of the research.Based on the actions executed, conclusions are drawn that (1) the use of Cooperative Learning strategy can improve the students’ learning motivation; and (2) the use of Cooperative Learning strategy can improve the folklore appreciation ability of the fifth grade students of State Primary School of Jatisobo 2, Polokarto, Sukoharjo.
