    Abstract

    This research aimed to determine the correlation between (1) learning motivation and the writing skill, (2) deep listening and the writing skill, and (3) ) learning motivation and deep listening and the writing skill. The research was carried out at elementary school in Girimarto Subdistrict, from October 2008 to April 2009. The research used was descriptive of correlational. The population of the research were the fifth Grade Student at State Elementary School all Girimarto Subdistrict. The sample consisted of 80 students who were taken by using simple random sampling. The instruments used for data correlation were; test for writing skill, questionary for learning motivation, and test for deep listening. The technique used for analyzing the data was the statistical technique of regression and correlation. The result of the study showed that: (1) there is a positive correlation between learning motivation withwriting skill ( ry1= 0,69 at the level of significance α = 0,05 with N = 80 where rt = 1,66); (2) there is a positive correlation between deep listening withwriting skill ( ry1= 0,51 at the level of significance α = 0,05 with N = 80 where rt = 1,66): (3) there is a positive correlation between learning motivation and deep listening withwriting skill ( ry12= 0,80 at the level of significance α = 0,05 with N = 80 where Ft = 3,96). The above result show that learning motivation and deep listening simultaneously give significant contribution to the writing skill. It shows that both of variables can become good predictor for writing skill. The analysis also indicates that the correlation between learning motivation and the writing skill is stronger than that deep listening and the writing skill. It showsthat learning motivation be considered a better predictor for the writing skill than the deep listening. This reality brings consequencewriting skill education, the teacher has to make priority in oder to increase learning motivation in writing skill learning than attention capability.
