    Abstract

    The objectives of the research are to find out the increase of student’ learning motivation and the learning achievement of Physical Education on Basket Ball Subject, Grade XI IPS.1 SMA Negeri 1 Banyudono through the application of learning strategy by using the method of progressive distributed exercise. The research involves 40 students. This research is a Class Action Research which is carried out in grade XI IPS.1 students of SMA Negeri 1 Banyudono. The data is collected by using the data resources in the forms of a place and event, informants, and document. The instruments used in this research are observation technique, interview, questionnaire, and test. The research is carried out within the phases of cycle action. Before entering into the cycle phases, it is firstly carried out a pre-cycle action by using a conventional method. After completing the pre-cycle action, then, it is continued carrying out the cycle action I, the cycle action II, and the cycle action III in which each cycle uses the method of progressive distributed exercise. The result of the research shows that the application of learning strategy by using the method of progressive distributed exercise is, in fact, able to increase the students’ learning motivation and achievement. On the pre-test, before the action research done, the motivation score is 3.07 (satisfactory category), after the action research done, the motivation score is 3.72 (good category). In spite of increasing the learning achievement in first cycle, the class average grade reaches 67.73 with the learning completeness 72.5 % and in the second cycle, the class average grade is 70.25 with the learning completeness 82.5 %, and in the third cycle, the average grade reaches 74.68 with the full learning completeness or 100 %.
