    Abstract

    Patma Kartikasari. USING CONSTRUCTIVISM BY EXPERIMENT AND DEMONSTRATION METHOD IN THE SUBJECT OF ELASTICITY VIEWED FROM THE STUDENTS’ MATHEMATIC CAPABILITY IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. Thesis. Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, July 2009. This research aims to find out (1) whether there is or there is not the effect difference using constructivism by experiment and demonstration method with respect to students’ cognitive capability, (2) whether there is or there is not the effect difference between mathematic capability with high, medium, and lower categories with respect to students’ cognitive capability, (3) whether there is or there is not the effect the constructivism by learning method with mathematic capability with respect to students’ cognitive capability. This research employs experiment method with factorial design 2 x 3. This population of research is all students in class XI of senior high school 2 Surakarta in the School Year of 2008/2009 consisting of all class XI IPA. The employed sampling technique is cluster random sampling, so obtained 2 classes that are XI IPA 2 as experiment class which is comprised 37 students and XI IPA 3 as demonstration class which is comprised 40 students. The two classes is assumed in same cognitive capability Techniques of collecting data are documentation and test. The documentation technique is used to obtain the data on the students’ early capability score by value of mid Semester 1 of physics lesson and the data on the students’ mathematic capability score by value of mid Semester 1 of mathematic lesson. The test technique is used to obtain the data on the students’ physics cognitive capability. The employed test technique of analyzing data is a two anava method with different cell followed with the anava advanced test: scheffe multiple comparison method. Based on the result of research, it can be concluded that: (1) there is an effect difference between learning and to students’ cognitive capability. (Fa = 7.781 > Ftabel = 3.98 on significant level 5%). From multiple comparison test, it is obtained that constructivism by experiment method more effective than demonstration method.; (2) there is an effect difference between the students’ mathematic capability the higher, medium, and lower category to students’ cognitive capabilities. (Fb = 182.893 > Ftabel = 3.13 on significant level 5%). From multiple comparison test, it is obtained that the students with higher of mathematic capability have a better cognitive competence compared with the students with medium and lower capabilities. The students with medium of mathematic capability have a better cognitive competence compared with the students with lower capabilities; (3) there is no interaction between constructivism by learning method with mathematic capability to students’ cognitive capability. (Fab = 0.153 < Ftabel = 3.13).
